Two-step verification (also known as Two-Factor Authentication or 2FA) is an important tool for protecting your RKStudio account from unauthorized access.
After July 1, 2020, two-step verification will be required on all RKStudio project coordinator accounts. If you do not already have two-step verification enabled, you will be prompted to enable it when you log in.
Enabling Two-Step Verification
To enable two-step verification:
- In RKStudio, select "My Account -> Profile."
- Select the "Two-Step Verification" tab.
- Download and install an authenticator app on your mobile device. There are many such apps available, and any one will work. Google Authenticator is a common choice, available for free on iOS or Android.
- In the authenticator app, add RKStudio to the list of applications. For example, in Google Authenticator you can do this by pressing the "+" button.
- When prompted in the authenticator app, you may either scan the barcode or enter the manual alphanumeric code from your RKStudio profile page. These codes are personalized for each user, so you must use the codes from your account, not the sample below.
- The authenticator app will now show RKStudio in the apps list, with a numeric key code that changes every 30 seconds.
- Enter the current code into the verification prompt in your RKStudio profile page. Two-step verification is now enabled.
When two-step verification is enabled, RKStudio will prompt you to enter the code from your authenticator app the next time you log in.
If you enable "Remember me for 30 days" on the login screen, you will not need to enter a code again for 30 days, as long as you're using the same computer and browser. Otherwise you will need to enter the code from your authenticator app every time you log in.
Changing Your Authenticator
If you need to change your authenticator (for example, if you get a new phone), follow these steps:
- Log in to your RKStudio account. When prompted for a verification code, you will need the code from the authenticator app on your old phone.
- Go to "My Account -> Profile."
- Select the "Two-Step Verification" tab.
- Select "Disable Two-Step Verification."
- Using your new phone, follow the same steps you did to enable two-step verification originally:
- Install the authenticator app.
- Scan or enter the barcode into the authenticator app.
- Enter the verification code from the authenticator app into your RKStudio profile page.
For details, see "Enabling Two-Step Verification" above.
Two-step verification is now enabled on your new phone. Authenticator codes from your old phone will no longer work for logging into RKStudio.
Recovering a Lost Authenticator
If you cannot access your authenticator app (for example, if you lost your phone or uninstalled the app), you will not be able to log in to RKStudio. Contact RKStudio support to recover your account.
